When the days are short and nights long, when most plants have gone to sleep for the winter, the rosy pink blossoms of 'Autumnalis Rosea' dazzle brightly from November through to March.
Its foliage goes through something of a chromatic journey, starting out green in hue, before gradually turning to the glowing embers of yellow, orange and red in autumn.
Ideal for small spaces, this compact cherry blossom grows to just 4x4m, making it an excellent choice as a front garden feature tree. What's more, it's happy in most soils provided they're moist (but well-drained).
Can be pruned in the first few formative years to help produce a more balanced branch framework, overall. Otherwise, it's an easy-going, low-maintenance tree with few requirements.
